How do you backstab a Dragon?
I keep wanting to ask you necromancers. Don't all those bodies laying about start to stink after a while? How do your families put up with it?
I left about 12 keys in a barrel because I didn't want them some time back, and just the other day I went back just to open the barrel. There were two keys in the barrel, where the rest were gone.
1. Would these two keys be considered anchoring items? I'll apologize, I haven't stumbled upon that list mentioned earlier, but it would be neat if that is what they are. One is the Forelhost key and the other I can't remember right now...
2. My only hesitance is in the grind I have ahead of me... To avoid leveling every skill besides Restoration until level 70 will take some endurance, but it'll be worth it...
)
1. Yeah, I believe so, however even if the item can be used to anchor, not all corpses will abide by this trick, and will naturally vanish - so best to put an item on that isn't something you'd particularly miss and wait the 30 days or do a couple of quests and come back, see if they've gone or not. Try Thralling them for atleast 10 days also, it might make a difference.
2. Haha, I'm doing the same thing with my character, I had to avoid levelling Sneak, Lockpicking (still 15), certain magic schools kept low, and focused on Conj, O-Handed, Block, low Speech (some instances are unavoidable). It's tough, but as long as you've got a general idea of how low you want to keep your level and focus on a handful of skills that are your top priority then its doable.
Also avoid reading books at all times, unless they are of the same schools you want to level.
Please tell me you gave him a two handed weapon xDShalidor's Maze Churl vs. Azura's Star Churl
Basically, one is a melee variant of the other and vice versa. I have seen a little bit of talk about the Dremora here, but figured I could add. 'Course I'm sure there is a page I haven't made it to that includes the information written here... Well, you don't have to read it if you don't want to...
The SM Churl will equip and use any weapon you give him, including a bow and arrow. He'll cycle through staves just as effectively as the AS Churl-- in fact, he handles summoning staves far better than the AS Churl. He can easily summon a new atronach as soon as the previous is expelled or expires; and, like the AS Churl, will use both the Flame And Frost Atronach staves. These are all major pluses over the AS Churl, though, the drawbacks are just as apparent.
Unlike the AS Churl, the SM Churl has no knowledge of spells. He will not heal himself, cast flesh spells, raise wards, nor use destruction magic. Stripped of all his items, he will, in fact, attack with his fists until a sliver of health is remaining. At this point he will run away and "hide". I'm assuming Dremora were never animated in the crouching position and, so he'll simply stand around a corner until approached. I see the inability to use magic at all to be quite a drawback, though, a balls to the wall skirmisher may feel otherwise. -- I might add, it's rather ironic he wears a circlet that reduces spell cost when he, himself, cannot cast any. Poor guy!
Still, he is pretty neat. The fact that he uses the weapon on his back and can also bear a bow is quite excellent. Regardless, of my feelings towards my Churl, I'm definitely going to give this one a go, and see how he performs in the "real world".
There is a dremora that knows a summoning spell?! Also, do you have details on how to afford to cast dead thrall at level 1?It's just really nice feeling like you're not "top dog", you know? I have potions, weapons, enchantments, armour, and spells at my disposal; but, I can still be killed if too careless. I do wish DR didn't cap out though. I'd have much preferred a diminishing returns system.
Sooo.... some crazy turn-outs for today. Now, I don't feel like everyone else is crazy when they talk about the Shalidor's Maze Churl being able to cast Flame Atronach. It appears to be random which Churl you get, however, which you get can obviously be told by the style of attack he chooses. The first time I entered the .... oblivion portal arena.... he was sporting an Iron warhammer (at level 20), and each time following that he spawned an atronach.
I think I'm going to settle for the latter type Churl, to see how he thrives in combat. So far I've learned he does not use two-handed weapons, although he spawns with one (like the Azura's Star Churls). When cautioned always has his left hand ready for summon; though, despite this he will use a bow and arrow at mid to long range. Close-range he'll swap to his one-handed weapon of your choosing. Here's that odd bit: He does not seem to know how to use staves at all. I've tried giving him primary/secondary, summon alone, and nothing except a primary; no dice. Interesting AI behaviors, for sure.

- Referring to random spawning. Just save before you 'Discover' a location, enemies and items are determined on arrival. If you're not happy with the results, reload and retry.
Haha, thats no secret! I broke the Atronach forge in a much larger scale, theres a way to spawn a repetative stream of items, works with every thing you can craft.
A possible source for Fortify (magic school) enchantments are the randomly respawning magic helmets found at Hamvir`s Rest or Cradlecrush Rock. (both obtainable by snatch-and-run if desired)
Level 36, going to thrall dremoras. They become unthrallable past it, and I really want to miss the opportunity.
