Tips for a Thief

Could someone give me tips for being a thief? Also tips on sneaking around and being stealthy?

No offense, no. Save the thieves guild for later in game since nightingale scales to your level and most people end up using legendary nightingale or dragonscale endgame and you should wan those awesome enchantments on the gear (a bunch of sick ones when u wait).

Anyways, heres my advice for sneaking.

Stay out of direct light in any area, do things at night or stay in the shadows. Avoid direct sight lines as well. If you can see their eyes fairly easily-- move! Don't try a bunch of dagger assasination in the beginning. Wait till your sneak is higher and only sneak with daggers if there is 1-2 enemies who are not directly interacting (talking or looking at each other)

Secondly, when sniping with a bow move after every shot, they go to where the shot was made when u kill someone. Also use shots to distract them. When u misfire an arrow they go to where the shot hits. Easy way to lure them into a clustfer fluff.

Id advise stick around white run and get to say 15-20 and then join the dark brotherhood and use their gear gear. 35% damage to bows cowl, with 2x backstab damage gloves and muffled footstep boots (helps bc then you are muffled). You'll also get an unkillable horse from the quest line and an amazing dagger.

Next i'd do the daedric quest for mehrunes razorr.

Also make sure to raise smithing to craft and enhance better bows.

Finally join the thieves guild at 25-32. That is the best timing as your sneak will be high enough to do their quests correctly and get the best scaled loots possible.


hopefully you are using a dagger/bow combo

so split perks inbetween (and with this priority level this is assuming you starting from level one): sneak, archery, 1 handed, smithing, and enchantment

once you hit about 20-30 (actual game levels) switch perk priority order to: sneak, smithing, archery, 1h, and enchanting.

this is good advice but its easier to stay around whiterun and hunt deer,bear,wolves and sneak the entire time. youll level up your weapons,armor,sneak,and smithing all at the sametime. plus when you sneak everywhere you can tell if an enemy is hunting you or not.
