It stayed on my journal even after the main quest, then randomly disappeared a few IRL weeks later. I killed Paarthurnax to see what would happen with the Blades if I did, and when I killed him, the quest reappeared as finished, and I also had an on-screen alert show that I had completed it.
But anyway, it sounds like he's glitched. I'd just forget about it and do some other things, then come back later and see if it's fixed.
