They've already confirmed that they're releasing both a Wii U and 3DS version.

It's not just cross compatibility but also each version has their own stages that the other doesn't have. 3DS version will have stages centered around the handhelds while Wii-U version will have home console based stages.

Yes, geardawks is correct, Olimar has been revealed because Pikmin 3's release and it has been selling VERY well in Japan and UK. Apparently the game was so good that it was a console seller out there. One-two weeks ago:
