Losing my companions

I'll be trudging along with my companion who's carrying a load of goods for me, and I'll run into a quest that I need to do solo, but I'm never reunited with my companion afterwards and I lose all the gear that he was carrying? Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

This happened to me a lot. If it ever said 'your follower has left your service' then they will have gone back to where you found them. If it didn't, then they may be dead or they are wandering around the wilderness for you. The only other thing I can think of would be to go back to where you left them and look there

Yeah, I'm on a PC. Not a big deal because I haven't gotten too far into the game, but it's a bit of a pain.

Try using the tilde key (~). You should then be able to type in console commands.

Type in 'prid putfolloweridhere'

Press Enter

Type moveto player

Press Enter

And they should appear next to you.

For example, Marcurio's ID is 000b8886

So you would type:

prid 000b8886 (ENTER)
moveto player (ENTER)

Then press ~ again to close the menu, and Marcurio (or whichever follower) should appear next to you.
