Name: Arthur Tell
Race: Human
Nationality: Ferelden
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Class: Warrior (Sword & Shield)
Origins: Peasantry
Looks: 6'4, 220 pounds. Head looks something like this except with messier, straighter hair. Very muscular.
Personality: Cold and distant due to many years of fighting and death. He is a rowdy soldier in battle, taunting his enemies and trying to make them feel inadequate. He started his long career as a live-wire but has become a very calculating person throughout the years. Strangely, he is optimistic and always willing to help.
Combat Preferences: His heavy armor and shield allow him to block and absorb damage while dealing with enemies with his sword. He belongs on the frontlines, holding back enemies while others support.
Skills: Naturally skilled with sword and shield. His fearlessness in battle has a tendency to uplift the morale of others. Can easily take the attack of enemies and respond with a swift counter-strike. Moves very capably in his armor.
Gear: Heavy steel armor with a heavy steel shield. A standard longsword on his side, nothing else.
Backstory
Arthur was born to the family of farmers who scraped by a decent living. The family never had much, but they were capable of getting by with a few excess purchases now and then. From as early as he could walk, Arthur was expected to help with the farming. The work was hard and brutal, and Arthur always felt there was more to life.
By the time Arthur was fifteen, he was six foot tall and all the farm work had ensured he was very strong. This made him think that perhaps the life of a soldier would fit him well. So with a few saved up coins, he went to the nearby town of Denerim and bought a sword. He practiced with his weapon for many hours until he became quite proficient in it. He saved up to buy a shield, then armor. He had only barely gotten his first set of armor when news of the Blight spread over Ferelden.
Arthur's first response was to convince his family to leave Ferelden. That forsaken land was not worth their deaths. Eventually, the family managed to make a few bribes to get into the port city of Kirkwall, far away enough to be safe from the blight at least for a while. Arthur, however, decided he would use all his equipment to start a new life as a soldier.
As the Blight spread, it became easy enough to find work. Arthur looked like a serious enough soldier, and Mercenary groups and caravans were more than willing to hire him. During the Ferelden Blight, Arthur's skills developed. He learned the true skills of board-and-sword, and slayed a fair number of darkspawn. As the Warden battled the darkspawn out to save all of Thedas, Arthur did his part by helping small-time merchants and citizens.
Eventually, the threat of the Blight to the surface was ended by the Warden. Arthur had grown into a capable warrior, with a reputation for his fearlessness against evil enemies. After the Darkspawn had fully retreated below the surface, Arthur began to travel over Ferelden in an attempt to help those he needed.
He saw the horrors the Darkspawn had unleashed, but he was shocked the most by the amount of damage small-time bandit parties had done and by how Fereldan, during its time of greatest need, split apart rather than come together.
By the time of the call for the Exalted March, Arthur has had much experience with the world. And though it has often showed him its evils over and over, he retains some hope he can help it. He hopes that the Exalted March can help put a more permanent end to the Darkspawn than the temporary retreat that has always followed a Blight.
