Next Tales Title, Tales of Berseria, Comes In 2017
Last December an English release for the next game in Namco’s Tales series, Tales of Berseria, was confirmed. Today we have a basic idea of when we can expect that game: Namco says it’s coming in early 2017.
Two new playable characters join the challenging quests of TALES OF BERSERIA. Eizen, nicknamed “The Reaper”, is the skipper of Aifread’s pirates and he always makes his own decisions. Though he is a malak (a spiritual being that can harness the power of nature), he sails the Van Eltia pirate ship on the open seas to follow his own creed. While looking for the missing Captain Van Aifread, he meets Velvet and joins her to fight their common enemy, the Abbey.
Conversely, Eleanor defends the Abbey against Velvet’s repeated attacks. As a praetor, Eleanor always scrabbles to release the world from daemons threat, but fate will eventually make her join Velvet’s party. The young girl tries to be reasonable as much as possible but she can sometimes be overcome by emotion, because she is honest with a great compassion for others.
Namco mentions the next Tales will feature a refined version of what they’ve termed the “Switch Blast” battle system, which allows characters to be switched on the fly to serve as backup when one of them is really eating crow. “The back-up character has one more soul than usual when he joins a battle,” says Namco. “If players lose some “Soul”, for example when they are inflicted by a status ailment, players can overcome this danger by using the Switch Blast.” Got that?
On a less impactful scale, the company also makes mention of refinements made to the illustrations that appear whenever characters talk. Namco is promising a lot more expressions and multiple portraits at once. This affects little, but it’s nice to look at.
Look for Tales of Berseria on Playstation 4 and PC once 2017 begins.
