Nier Is Coming Back For A Reincarnation
Why are Square fanatics bouncing off the walls? Because they’re under quarantine and can’t go outside, but what’s the second reason? It’s because the impending resurrection of an originally neglected title is finally Nier.
A lot of gamers regard 2017’s Nier Automata as one of the best video games of the 2010s, but it was actually a sequel to a previous game, Nier, that came out in 2010. Nier itself was a spinoff of Square’s Drakengard series, but that’s a different topic. Point is, now that everyone loves the Nier series, they have a strong hunger to play the game that started it all — and Square has finally announced they’ll be sating that hunger.
There are actually two different versions of the original Nier for Playstation 3 and XBox 360: Nier Replicant, released only in Japan, and Nier Gestalt, released only in Western markets (though this version eventually got a 360 release in Japan, but since it was on the 360, no Japanese people bought it). It looks like the remaster of Nier is going to be the Japanese version, given that its original name is attached to the below trailer…
But there’s more Nier where this came from! Nier Reincarnation was announced on the same day for mobile devices. We don’t know much about it at this time, other than it will be free with microtransactions applied.
Square hasn’t formally announced an English release for Nier Replicant (which bears the subtitle ver. 1.22474487139, but we’re only typing that once). However, the fact that their US department is openly hyping the announcement strongly suggests we’re getting this here. We’ll pass on more Nier news as it arrives.
