Gameplay From Square’s Project Setsuna Shown At TGS
Until Tokyo Game Show happened, all anyone knew about Square-Enix’s mysterious new property, called Project Setsuna, was that it starred a female and it had “themes of sadness.”
Today we were finally given a glimpse of what Square has in mind, and it looks like the kind of game they haven’t produced for some time, at least for a big console like the PS4. It’s an RPG from a top-down perspective, with all members of the party visible, following behind you in a straight line. Monsters are fought in turn-based battles, there’s an overworld with tiny towns and trees, and from the looks of things Chrono Trigger-style X-attacks are possible. It’s everything Final Fantasy was, and is afraid of ever being again for some reason.
Speaking of those franchises, Square has hopes Project Setsuna can rise to their pedigree and potentially launch a new series. I’d be interested, at least. Project Setsuna will launch on the Playstation 4 and Vita next year in Japan. The 30-second TGS trailer can be viewed below.
