Final Fantasy XV Director Reacts To Hardware Upgrades
During E3 last month Microsoft formally announced Project Scorpio, an advanced version of the XBox One with 4K output, VR support and “six teraflops of performance.” This announcement wasn’t a surprise to anyone who follows the company’s frequent leaks. In fact, the one person who DID find out about Scorpio from this presentation turned out to be…..Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV. Go figure.
Tabata made an appearance at the conference to introduce FFXV, and as he was waiting backstage, the console’s teaser trailer was broadcast. “I was there waiting in the green room and I go ‘Ooh wow, what’s that?'”
One console Tabata should definitely know about is Neo, the upgraded Playstation 4 that, as far as anyone can tell, is still coming out by the end of this year. According to Tabata, though, he couldn’t get anything ready for that console yet. “It’d be really great though if we could have Final Fantasy XV [as] something we can play on the current-generation Xbox One and PS4, [and] also give them that choice that when the new, stronger-generation hardware comes out, to have them play at that level as well,” he said. “I’d really like to be able give them that.”
Square hasn’t announced any upgraded version of Final Fantasy XV yet, but no game company has spoken publicly about 4K versions of their own games either. FFXV will support Playstation VR, but in a rather weak manner….the extent of the game’s VR portion is that you fight a monster and then ride in a car.
