Another Big Look At Ni No Kuni 2
Bandai Namco, publisher of Ni No Kuni and its soon-to-exist sequel, showed off some gameplay footage from that sequel during a press conference this week. One of the new bits of information they revealed was that the art style would be slightly different. It’s nothing one would notice at first glance, but the game’s overworld has been rendered a bit more realistically than the last game’s was.
We also know more about the story now, including the reason why King Evan, the boy monarch at the center of the plot, has been dethroned. Previously we assumed it was the work of a villain (and there likely still is one involved), but Namco says he lost his crown mainly because the people didn’t like him. He replaced his father at a young age and was thought to be “too weak.” The game will be about his learning courage and strength in hopes of taking his kingdom back.
Joining him in his quest will be Roland, the visitor from another world we learned about at E3, and Tani, an orphan pirate described as a “rough tomboy.” Supporting characters will include little blobby white guys called Higgledies that provide special combat abilities to you in the battlefield. (No word on if you have to capture them, or if there is a monster-collecting aspect like there was in the first game.)
The website Polygon provided video from Namco’s playthrough, and it can be seen below. Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom launches later this year for Playstation 4 and PC.
