Is Bethesda Working On Elder Scrolls 6? ….No
Sorry to pass on disappointment to everyone who has been assuming Bethesda Games is hard at work on the sixth Elder Scrolls game, but….they’re not. Marketing executive Pete Hines was asked two days ago on Twitter if the studio was hard at work on the next game, and he replied. To put the question being asked in context, Fallout 4 and Skyrim director Todd Howard made a recent comment that Bethesda was working on “three big and crazy projects.”
“Are those big games gonna take away the focus from ES6?” asked Twitter-er Hot Shame.
Hines replied, “We aren’t working on ES6 at the moment.”
Todd Howard has since dialed back the “three crazy projects” claim. “I should have never said a number because we have so many things. You could add it up in different ways,” he said. “You could say it’s bigger or smaller. They’re a long way off. I think the larger point was, no one should expect to hear about those [games] anytime soon. We always overlap projects. We just have more going on now than we had before.”
Some would put forth that if Bethesda is so committed to keeping Skyrim going (hence the remaster for PS4 and XBox One), then obviously they’re nowhere near ready to show off ES6. Not even working on it, however, is quite the cold statement….though it may not be as cold as it appears. Gamespot writer Eddie Makuch tries to offer some comfort after breaking the news: “It could be that pre-production, but not full production, is already underway. Pre-production on projects often begins long before actual production gets started, so it’s possible that some work towards the development of the unannounced game has been done. This is not confirmed, however.”
