The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Is Finally Out
How much longer do we have to wait for Square to release the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo? Exactly zero seconds. What’s in it and how big is it?
Just before the new year, footage of a demo for Final Fantasy 7 Remake started appearing on YouTube from multiple sources. It was the first time such a demo had been confirmed, and it also confirmed Square was just sitting on it. Total sit time turned out to be two months. Square hit “publish” at midnight Pacific time on March 2; you can play it today.
The original Final Fantasy 7 also had a pre-release demo, which shipped with Tobal No. 1 and a few magazines. If you remember how much that demo gave, you know what to expect from this one. Both demos encapsulate the Mako Reactor bombing run, and end right when the reactor explodes. They contain multiple Shinra troop battles plus one boss fight, the Scorpion Sentinel…but that’s where this new take branches off.
You likely know how to defeat the Scorpion by now. Just keep hitting it with Cloud and Barret and DON’T listen to the mistranslated instructions of “Attack when its tail is up.” This time, repetitive button mashing will not work….the 2020 tank has a TON of new tricks, and the battle goes through multiple phases. Expect the Scorpion to hand you your behind for the first time in decades.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo is downloadable now on the Playstation Store. It’s 7.5 gigs large. Grab it by mid-May and you’ll receive a free FF7 PS4 theme (once the game comes out, that is).
