Mod Support IS Coming to PS4 Skyrim After All
First bethesda announced their current console versions of Skyrim and Fallout 4 would be supporting fan mods. Then Sony said “not so fast, we aren’t quite comfortable with that” and forbade the planned feature. As of today you can mod Skyrim and Fallout’s Xbox One versions to your heart’s content, but not the PS4’s. And you can believe Microsoft has bragged about this.
That bragging must have snapped a nerve, because Sony’s taken an about-face. Pivoting from their previous statement, Bethesda announced today Sony had changed their minds and was now allowing mods to be installed. (Well, most mods….those that use imported models not found within the game can’t be transferred.)
How soon will you get this feature? Very soon. Bethesda expects to have mod support implemented by October 28, the day Skyrim: Special Edition releases on PS4. Awful quick turnaround, but who’s complaining? Fallout 4 will be altered to accept mods at a later date.
Mod support will come to Skyrim first. We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible. Mods on PlayStation 4 will allow you to modify and create your own content by using our Creation Kit available here. You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do. By creating a Bethesda.net account, you’ll be able to browse and try mods right from within the game.
To drum up the hype, Bethesda has released some gorgeous 4K screenshots from the PS4 Pro version of Skyrim. The new version will ship with mod support on October 28.
