So Much Fire Emblem Is Coming Your Way
It’s never been a better time to be into Nintendo’s Fire Emblem series. This week the company unveiled a total of FOUR upcoming titles during a special livestream event.
First they revealed the next 3DS game, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. The game is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, the second FE game ever released, back in the days of the NES/Famicom. American and European audiences never got this game, and it’s somewhat different from what FE fans in the West are used to. There are dungeon-crawling sections, and the difficulty is higher. When Fire Emblem echoes is released, two new amiibo figures of the game’s central characters will come out as well.
Fire Emblem Warriors, a Koei-produced title that will be much like Hyrule Warriors (and Dynasty Warriors before that) except with FE characters, will be out in the fall for both Switch and 3DS. A mainline title in the FE series is also being created for Switch, but is too early in development for a release window to be announced.
then there’s the first Fire Emblem game for smartphones, Fire Emblem Heroes. It’s going to be an FtP game supported by in-app purchases and it will star nearly everyone from Fire Emblem’s long history in one title. Fans will get to vote on which of these many characters will get to be the starting characters of the game. The polls are open now and close January 31. Voting gets you 200 instant platinum My Nintendo points.
Fire Emblem Heroes comes out February 2 for Android (an iOS version will follow), Fire Emblem Echoes comes out May 19, Fire Emblem Warriors comes out in the fall of 2017, and the Switch Fire Emblem releases sometime in the far future. We’re fortunate Nintendo is willing to invest so much into keeping Fire Emblem alive. Ask any Metroid fan how the opposite feels.
