Final Fantasy X On Steam Has A Subtitle Problem
The new Steam version of Final Fantasy X and X-2 Remastered has both the English and Japanese voice tracks accessible in all regions, as well as subtitles in even more languages. There’s just one issue about that.
Those who prefer the original Japanese voices don’t necessarily know Japanese, which is why they need the English subtitles turned on. But in this version, if you have the sound switched to Japanese, your only subtitle options are Japanese, Korean or Traditional Chinese. What happened there?
Square isn’t being specific, but they hint they ran into a problem during development they weren’t able to solve. “We know a lot of you have been asking whether there are dual audio options but unfortunately due to technical reasons, we’re not able to include dual audio in FFX|X-2 HD Remaster,” a rep from Square said in an update post on the Steam page. No one knows what kind of “technical reasons” would prevent something so simple, but it’s driven fans to come up with their own solutions.
Several modders are working on a patch for FFX and X-2 that will allow Japanese sound and English subtitles at once. It shouldn’t be difficult to put together, so if the inability to understand what they’re saying annoys you, wait a few days.
