Dragon Quest VIII On 3DS Will Carry A Different Soundtrack
Nintendo recently had to admit, though Square tried to keep everything about Dragon Quest VIII the same from its PS2 version, one thing is going to be different. (Please read the Roman numerals correctly: we’re talking about 8, which will be released in 2017, not 7, which just came out right now.)
7 used MIDI music, but 8’s soundtrack was orchestral. And all those recordings took up a lot of space on the disc….space that isn’t available on a 3DS card. Nintendo is creating the English translation of Dragon Quest VIII, and they had to admit when it came down to it, they had to choose between the original soundtrack and the original voice track.
In Japan this isn’t a problem because the game had no voices at all. Voice acting was added for the English release and all releases afterward. They had to choose between music and voices, and picked voices. DQ8 on 3DS will use a synth facsimile for its soundtrack.
If this is a dealbreaker for you….don’t be silly. The gameplay is the most important thing.
There’s no specific release date for the English version of Dragon Quest VIII but it is promised for 2017.
