E3 2018: Disgaea 1 Complete Coming October 9 To Switch, PS4
When is Disgaea 1 Complete coming to Switch and Playstation 4? We found out the answer today. On October 9, how many penguins can you annihilate while riding the bus?
The Disgaea series has been around since 2003 and won millions of fans, earning four sequels and a direct continuation of the original, Disgaea D2. This year we’re going back to the beginning with an HD remaster of the original game, first released for PS2. If you’ve never played it, then you ignored the PSP and DS rereleases as well. Get it together, dood!
The Overlord is dead. The Netherworld is in turmoil. Time to kick some ass! Netherworld Prince Laharl awakens to fight for his throne and it’s up to him and some unlikely allies to defend what is rightfully his. Together with his devious vassal Etna, the angel trainee Flonne, and a whole cavalcade of explosive characters, Laharl will slash, shoot, and punch his way to the top. Build your squad to level 9999 and unleash crazy special skills, team attacks, and spells to deal millions of points of damage in this zany high-definition remake of an RPG classic.
Part of what makes the Disgaea series so addictive is how the entire world is malleable. You can just play through the game stage by stage and be satisfied, but you can also spend hours grinding up your weapons and characters to become absolutely indestructible. If that’s not satisfying, you can just outright cheat…but in order to get away with cheating you’ll have to bribe the judges with food. Then, if you regret turning cheats on, you can bribe them again to make the game harder. No matter what you want to do, the game will just throw up its hands and say, “Whatever, man.”
The new trailer below reveals the graphics in Disgaea 1 Complete have been updated (and that the English translation isn’t apparently done yet). There may be some other small improvements as well, given how the mechanics of Disgaea have improved in the four games since the original. One new addition mentioned by NIS is the option of playing in “Etna Mode,” which lets you meet new characters.
Many games these days have Collector’s Editions, but only Disgaea would throw together a set this over-the-top and ridiculous. Available only at NIS America’s online store, the Disgaea 1 Complete Rosen Queen Edition includes the game, the soundtrack, a hardcover art book, nine enamel pins, three Prinny coasters, a mousepad shaped like Etna, two “tear-resistant” posters, a cube-shaped Prinny plush, and even a Certificate of Authenticity.
But you’re probably just fine with the game. Disgaea 1 Complete will be released for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch on October 9.
