I am going to start a new person in skyrim and I was wondering if there were any unique ways I could play (like no fast traveling, no killing, or sleeping at night) that would be interesting to do.

I did an illiterate orc, and it was quite fun. No books, no scrolls, no notes. On occasion when it was essential for the main quest, I gave the note to my follower to read for me, but the vast majority of the time, I just threw it away. Elder scroll doesn't count as it is a magical effect rather than language.

I wonder if it's possible to play a priest in this game; you just use restoration, and your followers and summons kill everything for you.

How about playing a Nord who got an arrow in the knee, but didn't allow this to put an end to his adventuring career? Could be quite fun to role play.

- You'd have limited movement in battle, so maybe just say that he can't run in one direction (like backwards or left) because that puts pressure on the injury? Or say he can't sprint at all?
- Maybe he tries a different non-Nordish type of battle - magic or sneaking - so that he can get his enemies before they get close and therefore avoid melee as much as possible?
- He could ride/take the carriage wherever possible
- After big battles, or long periods of running about, he has to lie down and rest his knee for a while
- Skooma helps the pain?

Just a random idea I had, I haven't tried it myself.

Play a mage without destruction. I made a summoner, I use resto, conjuration and alteration, heavy armor + a 1 handed weapon (bound sword does the most damage so far). It actually not too difficult, even on master. Biggest problem is spreading the perk points out so thin. Was going to make him a vampire, but kind of useless until I unlock necromage.

Just in time for the fiyahworks show! BOOM!
Have you tried playing while balancing on your head?

you can only kill when unseen? (unless of course you run into a dragon, that would be an exception)

and only use items that you loot or find, no purchasing or crafting?

Here's how I've been playing recently:

- Downloading a lot of realism mods, such as "Darker Nights", "Realistic Lighting" and "Magic Gives Off Light." Dungeons look so great when they're filled with shadows and darkness really changes how one plays the game. Bleak Falls Barrow was the first dungeon I tried with these mods and though I've done it half a dozen times before, it was made fresh and exciting by these new elements.

- Lots and lots of role-playing. My character has to eat twice a day and also support a skooma habit. She also has to get a good night's sleep every night. As she has trouble walking for long distances, she rides a lot. She's also not a smith and has to save up money to buy new armor or stumble upon it by happy accident. As a matter of course, I don't use fast travel either.

- Being a nomad. It also changes things when you don't have a place to call home and must carry everything you need on your back. Tedious hoarding behaviors get cut down real fast in this play-style. But it's also so freeing to know that you're not bound to one or more holds - that you can just pack up all your worldly belongings and set up camp anywhere in the world.

- Using a camping mod. If I clear out a dungeon and emerge from it late at night, this mod allows me to set up a tent to sleep in and make a fire to cook with under the stars. It adds very nicely to the realism.

that actually sounds pretty cool.

I wonder if it's possible to play a priest in this game; you just use restoration, and your followers and summons kill everything for you.

I've got one such character and have played him up to lvl 19: Cornelius the good imperial priest. My rules were:

* Must not do any harm directly.
* No conjuration (it's evil).
* No armor (faith is his armor and he's a man of peace anyway).
* No crime ofc.
* No looting! Only loot corpses for important items like keys, anything else is dishonorable (particularly the looting of graves and the undead).
* Illusion is allowed but only calm and courage (fear, rage and invisibility are black magic).
* Prefer good followers (housecarls or Mjoll).

Naturally my main skills were restoration for the healing, supported by illusion (for calm and courage) and a bit of alteration (for protection and lighting). To earn money I used crafts, primarily alchemy. I could go through a lot of tough stuff simply by using calm or turn undead to avoid fighting. But generally, a follower supported by constant healing can eventually get through most things. Mobs generally ignore the healer if he does no harm, so personal safety was not a big issue - only those pesky chaurus would constantly go for me (Frostflow Lighthouse was hell).

It's quite doable, and not nearly as hard as you might think. Definitely slower most of the time but again not as bad as you might think.

I have been thinking of getting that mod for the similar reasons.

One of the things I started on my recent characters is making sure I carry "camping" equipment. He has to have a lantern, cooking pot, ladle, bowl, plate and tankard. Also a quill, inkwell and roll or two of paper. As I go I try to find things that one might take while camping.

Aw man, I'm jealous of you guys who have Skyrim for PC. A camping mod would be so neat! And the idea of having really dark dungeons would make gameplay much more interesting I think.

I dabbled a little in trying to play without fast travel, but it didn't last long... too impatient! Haha. Now I try to limit myself though, so I get the opportunity to explore as much as possible. I'm really intrigued by the ideas some of you had about making a "peaceful" character and relying solely on followers to do the killing... That's something I would be interested in giving a shot (But, knowing me, I'd get patient again :p)

I guess the only even semi-unique stuff I do is limited fast travel and sleeping often... I need to expand my horizons XD
