So, I've been itching my story-writing muscles for a while, and wanted to try my hand at setting up an RP.
One thing that might be a little bit controversial is the way that I'd like to run it. Most RPs I've seen so far are very decentralised, with no ST/DM/whatever. This is a really good system, and it's great that it works so well here, but it does have a couple of potential weaknesses, in that it often needs people to play out their own story pretty much on their own if there's no-one else there. Certainly possible, but NPCs and the like can be fun if they're played by a non-player poster, who can pose problems and gin up fun and difficult obstacles for the players.
    SO
what I propose is something more like a conventional PNP game, still freeform, but with someone (me) to DM/ST and provide some fun plots for y'all to deal with. I'm very open to suggestions or requests about what sort of story you want - politics, war, exploration, character relationships and development - or no story at all, just a fun world for the other players to meander about in. The PbP approach means that some degree of player control of what they see is necessary and desirable (e.g. I go to the Balmora smith and have my acid-etched armour patched up), but I think that by providing basic GMing functions and not having to look after my own character we can all have a fun RP experience.
So, what are we looking at RP-wise?
The RP is going to be set after the events of Skyrim. Myra Heddskaal, Dragonborn of legend and successor to the late Ulfric Stormcloak, followed Alduin World-Eater into Aetherius and slew him there. She has since returned, taken up residence in Windhelm, and looks to be leveraging her dragonblooded status to lay a claim to the Imperial Throne following the death under very mysterious circumstances of Titus Mede. The Aldmeri Dominion stands poised in the west, waiting to launch the Second Great War, but, for the moment, Western Tamriel holds its breath.
But the wise know that that's a trifling matter. The East has gone silent, and no word of the Dunmer-Argonian war has come out of Black Marsh or Morrowind for weeks. Nothing - no messengers have emerged from anywhere east of the Velothi mountains, and those who head into it have not come back. That's where you come in. For whatever reason - wanderlust, a sense of politico-religious obligation, or simply a desire to get the big scoop for the Black Horse Courier on why two whole provinces have gone completely dark - you've gathered in Skyrim's easternmost point, high in the Dunmereth Pass, looking back on the desolate but familiar land of Skyrim, preparing to journey into parts unknown …
So, post character cards everyone! Some guidelines on what I'm looking for!
    1. Moderate - high power levels. No super-characters, only one or two shouts if you're looking at going that way, and let's limit ourselves to one artefact-level/enchanted Daedric piece of equipment.
    2. No god-modding. With a semi-ST to help arbitrate things, it should be less of a problem, but still …
    3. Have some reason to want to find out what's going on in Black Marsh, and ideally some sort of sponsoring organisation who've sent you (eg. the Dawnguard might worry that Aundae vampires are using the ash over Morrowind to walk in the day, and that's the cause of messengers disappearing; the Dark Brotherhood might have a contract out on someone on Vvardenfell, or something). Some sort of ability to work together with other players would be really good too - I don't mind running a few separate-but-overlapping quests, but not an overwhelming number.
    4. Characters should be fun, and interesting! I'm not looking for pages and pages of backstory, but ideally I should be able to remember a character by thinking 'aha! I can call to mind the details of that Khajit forger because of his distinctive quirk'.
So, anyone interested? Any questions? Post away!

    ♫♂GIBBERISH MAN♂♫
    I'm interested. Here's my card.

    Name: Swain

    Sex: Male

    Race: Half Nord, Half Redguard

    Age: 23

Appearance: 6’2”, 200 pounds. The bastard son of a Redguard merchant, Swain is a man with the skin of a redguard. From his birth, Swain has been incapable of growing hair on any part of his body, including his head. His eyes are brown, and over his left eye is a small scar, a reminder of the first street fight of his youth Aside from his skin color, Swain takes the physical characteristics of his mother, a nord.

Equipment: Black Robes, laced with a silver trim. Black boots and gloves. While Swain does own a dagger, he much prefers the use of magic.

Skills: Self taught Mastery of Conjuration, a superficial understanding of Destruction Magic. Vast knowledge of Nordic, Yokudan, and Cyrodiilic mythology, courtesy of the books of the Arcanaeum.

Personality: Having been orphaned as a child, Swain is an introvert. He rarely speaks, even to those that he considers to be his closest friends. He can be rather cruel and coldhearted, as well as immature in his thoughts, despite his vast knowledge of magic, geography, and mythology.

Backstory: Swain's mother, a Nord from Falkreath, had been convinced by Swain's father to leave with him for Hammerfell, under the pretense that they would be married. The couple set off on their journey, deeply in love with one another, searching for a place to call home. All was well for six months. When she told the man that she was with child, he revealed the shady details of his life to the woman, revealing that he was already married, and had a family to provide for already. Gisla and her unborn son were left to die in a strange land. Swain was born on a warm night in the city of Sentinel, his mother dying after giving birth.
From the moment of his birth, Swain was moved from orphanage to orphanage, wondering why his parents hadn't wanted him. He tried his hardest to be like the other kids. He ran and jumped and skipped with the best of them, but to no avail. Finally, after years of trying, Swain succeeded in getting adopted. He and his new family set off for their home in Markarth, but small luxuries, such as family and love, were not in the cards for Swain. At the tender age of eight, Swain witnessed the murder of his adoptive parents as they crossed the border into Skyrim. He watched in horror as the bandits abused his mother, verbally and sexually. He watched as they skinned his father.

He was then taken by the bandits to later be sold to the highest bidder. Luckily enough, the bandits did not live long enough to find such a bidder. A year after his abduction, when he was nine, Swain stood witness as a nord named Beua brutally murdered the bandits, stripping them of all of their possessions. Swain wanted nothing more than to accompany his savior in his travels, but the Nord would hear nothing of it. Beau promptly escorted Swain to the Honorhall Orphanage in the Rift.

This orphanage wasn’t even vaguely similar to the orphanages of Hammerfell. While in Hammerfell, the caretakers neglected the orphans unintentionally, this Grelod the Kind seemed to hate the children. She often beat them, and they never saw any prospects or potential parents.

Eventually, Swain decided that he had had enough. Seven years after having arrived at Honorhall, he had finally decided to leave. He was sixteen, and while he was far older than most other orphans, Grelod had continued to keep him locked up in the orphanage with the others. In the dark of the night, he snuck out of the orphanage, and the Rift, heading north, away from Grelod, and hopefully, toward a new, bright future.

The Redguard eventually made his way to a desolate city called Winterhold. At the far end of the city was a rather large building that resembled a castle. As he navigated through the small, barren city, he learned that the castle was in fact a college of magic. Swain had never seen or even heard of magic before arriving in Winterhold, and for him to be so close to an institution dedicated to teaching it was reason enough for him to investigate. He scurried up to the college, where he found his new home.

(His reason for traveling to Black Marsh is his curiosity of foreign cultures.)

Cool! Welcome aboard! I imagine his connections to the College of Whispers might also make him interested in looting all that cool Mages Guild/Telvanni relics that are presumably lying about free for the taken across Vvardenfell.

    Oblivion explorer
    name: Athera Vinikel

    race: Dunmer

    sex:female

    age: 19

appearance: 5'3. really pale skin for dunmer. has permanent black bags under her eyes, which are bright red. Her hair is black with a slight tint of red, and is done up in a braided ponytail. She wears a black robe with long flowing sleeves and a rather large collar that covers her mouth (her mouth it self is completely normal save for the black lip color). down the skirt of her robe is writing that means "death" in daedric. she wears normal black boots with a slightly supported heel

weapons: her magic, and a sharp elven dagger.

personality: Athera has a somewhat violent side. she, unlike many dunmer, has no respect for the dead, seeing them only as tools for her experiments. She will preform necromancy where ever she can, sometiems killing people to use their bodies. She has a somewhat short temper and will sleep whenever she can

history: Athera was born a memeber of house Redoran. When she was 7, she met a man who taught her necromancy. Soon enough, she would sneak out at night, meet the man, and go practice ressurecting dead bodies. She even ended up ressurecting her grandpa whom she loved. Due to all these nights practicing necromancy, Athera developed teh dark rings under her eyes that would nevere go away.

However, when she was 9, her family caught the man, who snitched and told them that Athera was helping him as well. Athera ended up fleeing morrowind and went to black marsh, only to receive a harsher treatment. She fleed to cyrodiil, and ended up in prison after getting caught stealing food. Luckily, she has a cellmate, who, with Athera's help, escaped. She fled to skyrim, and joined the college of winterhold. There, she could pactice her necromancy without fear...until followers of merdia caught wind of her.

Once again she was on the run. She had no place to turn.. except back to her morrowind

Sorry for not getting back to you all earlier - had to quickly rush to A&E. Feeling a bit better now!

Nice character Isara - definitely in. Redoran's got an interesting history with regard to Necromancy, and I think that it should be interesting to see how she reacts to some of the things going on in the new Morrowind (and in Black Marsh ...).

I'lll be getting a couple more people on board, then we can get going!

May I say something? This is remarkably similar to an idea a couple fo friends of mine are developing. Would you mind if I tag them to look at it and maybe use a couple of ideas? Not steal the whole thing, of course. Just use some of the baser elements. It is quite different, but they have some big OOC similarities. Also, I mwould like to apply, if you don't mind. I should have a card up later. Also, isn't it odd that I know everyone on here but only found out about this from the homepage? Weird. Anyway, dinner.

i wish to quickly add something:

As well as necromancy, Athera knows storm magic. and as she was travelling north, she came upon windehelm. Needless to say, her stay was not pleasant, so she kept

and a quick warning: i usually have trouble extending my posts, usually i can only make a 2-3 paragraphs

It does seem intresting would you want me to go deeper into my character such as weapons and likes/dislikes etc my character only uses two specific weapons given to in game I was wondering if that would be fine to use

Isara - that's fine :). I'm totally the opposite, and am totally incapable of writing a single paragraph when 5 might do. Hopefully we can balance each other!

Conquers - sure, welcome aboard! If your friends are interested in a Morrowind-y type thing/a more directed RP, then they can certainly check this out - alternatively, tell them to message me, and we can chat via PMs.

Weapons and armour is fine, background/likes/dislikes are good, but the most important thing IMO is going to be that one little thing that distinguishes them, and makes them memorable (are you using Amy, from the recruiting thread? Just develop that a bit, ought to be fine).

I'm debating something here. I cannot decide if I should use my Khajiit assassin, my possibly lore-bending Tsaesci agent, my Redguard assassin or my Orc werewolf warrior mage thing. Or should I just make someone new... I really like creating character cards. Anyway, the Orc and the Tsaesci don't follow the lore to the point and the assassins can both be overly powerful, so I'm wondering if I should just make a new one. I have others, but they don't appeal to me at the moment.

You can edit your old one, you know. Change a few things and make it better suited to the RP.

As to lore-bending things, I wouldn't worry overly about that. The spirit of the TES lore is probably more important here - at least, that's certainly the approach I'm likely to be taking, given how little we know about the Hist and what exactly those damn lizardmen are up to. Power-levels wise ... well, that shouldn't be an enormous issue, given the extent to which things can be tweaked to ensure that everyone is equally challenged/has an equal role to play. I certainly feel your pain about just wanting to make lots more character cards!

Yeah, exactly. Just something that'll make me and the other players think aha! that's her. And yeah, I think it's best if everyone just reposts what they have in this thread, ± any edits they might wish to make to it.

Well, know I cannot decide. The Tsaesci bends lore because all we know about Akavir are umpteenth-hand accounts, musty old books and fairy tales. As for the Orc, he is a werewolf, but not in the traditional sense. He has no human/wolf form, just wolf and human. The assassins were originally developed as cooperators of a guild of thieves and assassins, and so were made to be moderator level characters. I think I'll make another one, just for the fun of it, and to avoid any complications at all.
