Fallout 4 was released on Tuesday (yesterday, as I'm writing this). In just one day, Bethesda's long-awaited sequel has set a new record for most concurrent players running the game live on Steam at one time.

The previous record was set by Grand Theft Auto V, which had set an all-time peak of 360,000 concurrent users. Within hours of Fallout 4's release, the game was registering over 290,000 players and this was in the middle of the night. By the next day, everybody else woke up and the new record had been set. As of the screenshot above, Fallout 4 was pulling in over 445,000 players and the number continues to climb.

Other record-setting games of the past include Skyrim, which held the crown with 280,000 concurrent users until GTA V was released.

We should note, however, that when these figures come out they don't count games personally developed by Valve. If they did, no one would have come close to the 1,260,000 concurrent player record that DOTA 2 currently has.
