Skyrim Remaster Will Be “As Next Gen As Possible”
To those who’ve been assuming that the port of Skyrim to current-gen systems like the PS4 and XBox One will just contain the regular-looking game at a higher framerate, think again. Bethesda is aiming to bring Skyrim on par with current graphical standards — or at least as close as they can get.
As Bethesda’s Pete Hines told IGN, “We haven’t gotten into the full, ‘Here’s all the things we’re doing.’ But the basic idea is, in all the ways possible we’re trying to improve it and make it as next-gen and appropriate for these consoles as possible. Performance, effects, or whatever we can do to make the game look and feel better, we’re going to give it a go.”
Here’s another look at the Skyrim Special Edition trailer for E3, in which Hines says you can see some of these revamped areas.
The remastered Skyrim is also coming to PC, but if you already own the game there, don’t worry about obsolescence. If you own the base Skyrim game and the DLC (or the “Legendary Edition”) you’ll be getting the new PC version as a free update. And, Hines promises, all mods should still work (plus, they’ll work on consoles now).
Skyrim Special Edition comes out October 28 for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
