The Phantom

Consulting Criminal
Hello Fan-Fiction fans. I admit this is not quite Skyrim fan-fiction though I was inspired by many things. Now it is one of my dreams to be an author so constructive criticism, and compliments, are welcome.

Brandon Vortal
"Ugh..... Where am I?" I said after waking up. I slowly opened my eyes and immediately hissed and scurried to the back of whatever room I was in until my back contacted a metal surface. As my senses returned to me I began to survey my surroundings and soon realised I was in a cage. The room I was in was dreary, dank and dimly lit and the ominous smell of blood filled my nostrils.

I observed numerous exits and concluded that this room was but one of many in a large cave system. The walls were rock and large wooden pillars supported the roof. I soon realised that I was in a lair of some kind and as the events of last night came rushing back to me my location and situation became apparent.

I stood up and as I turned around I felt a sharp stinging pain on my neck, I placed my hand to the source of the pain and felt two small wounds by my jugular vein. There in the darkness appeared a tall yet slim elf with a bat-like face and murky brown hair, peering at me from the corner of the room. "Good, you're finally awake" the man exclaimed in a well-spoken intimidating manner. As he walked toward me the light caught his face revealing canines protruding oddly over his lip.
"Vampire!"
"Yes, young fledgling I am a Vampire of the great Clan Harkan and now you are too! Welcome to the coven! Our lord wishes to speak with you and your new master is not someone you should keep waiting!"
"Wait! Before you take me to see your master...."
"Our master" he corrected
"I would like to ask you a few questions."
"Oh, very well then, ask and I shall answer."
"What is going to happen to me? And why haven't you killed me yet?"
The Vampire looked almost offended by the question.
"We are not Barbarians! We are not as evil as the story books would lead you to believe. We are forbidden to harm you!"
"Why would you not harm me?"
"Because you have royalty in your blood! You were bitten by the leader of our clan, Lord Akril!"
"But what is so special about being infected by your leader?"
"Because, my young fledgling his blood now courses through you, and in but three weeks your vampiric powers shall awaken and you will have the true powers of a creature of the night. You will be a Vampire Ancient.
"What do you mean in three weeks? I thought I was a Vampire now!"
"Yes, that is technically true but you are but a fledgling currently. There is a three-week incubation period in which your body adapts and acclimatizes to its new power. However you are weaker in terms of vampiric power as a fledgling compared to a full grown Vampire. However, due to your Ancient Blood, you will be as powerful as a normal vampire during the three weeks of incubation; thereafter you will possess the greater powers equaling that of our Lord!"
"Is there no cure?"
"Correct! With one exception; during the three weeks the body treats Vampirism like it’s a disease and it is only during this stage a cure can be attempted. However our rival clan holds the only effective cure. The Laymiar Vampires. As soon as the incubation period is over, Vampirism becomes; incurable same with Lycanthropy."
"Very well then, I am ready to see Akril."

The Vampire held out his hand at the cage door and it swung open. As he turned, I seized the opportunity to make my escape; I hurled him towards the iron bars with a supernatural strength causing a gash to his head rendering him unconscious. The blood flowed from the wound and I experienced an overwhelming urge to drink the red velvet elixir. I picked him up and bit into his neck drinking his blood. The blood sent me into a frenzy.

I picked up the Vampires sword; it was a katana of dark colouring with strange letters and symbols engraved on the blade. The hilt however was strange as it molded itself to fit my hand. The weapon was obviously unique but I had no time to think about it as I came into a large room with a small island in the middle with a majority of the place being filled with water. There was a bridge connecting the entrance to the island and as I ran across I saw that there was a large building on the island. Seeing no other alternative, I ran into the building but stopped in my tracks as I saw several coffins around the room.

It was not the coffins themselves that made me stop but the people rising from them! They drew their weapons and came to attack me. I countered, lunged and stabbed, I was doing well and managed to dispatch all but one before he threw me off balance and now I was on the defensive! Slashing back at him, I tried to push him back and finally managed to defeat him by slashing his right leg so that he fell to his knees and finished him by ramming my blade down his shoulder and into his heart. I stopped to regain my breath on instinct until I realised something odd. I wasn’t breathing. In fact, I felt like I didn’t even have stamina! I looked around for the exit and saw a large opening in the building framed by marble; I guessed that this would lead me to an exit but I was also certain that I would have to deal with Akril.

Slowly approaching the doorframe; I cautiously opened the door, hoping that Akril was not in there. I did not see anyone in the room but its grandeur was astonishing. It was obviously Lord Akril’s room due to the pillars supporting the ceiling having gold designs and inscriptions. The walls were covered in strange carvings that looked as though they foretold a prophecy, or at least told a story of some kind. The furniture was of the highest quality, there was a cage with a person in, though he looked like a thrall, and there was a fountain with the design of a skull spewing out blood into a basin underneath it.

“So what do you think of our headquarters, rather impressive wouldn’t you agree?” Echoed a deep, sinister and commanding voice from the corner of the room. The sudden voice startled me and I quickly pulled out my blade and pointed in the direction of the voice! A tall, bulky man with rugged features, pitch-black, well kept hair and moustache in golden armour, with a blood red cape stepped out from behind the fountain.
“I’m leaving.”
“You do not understand the power of the Vampire! Stay and I shall show you what it truly means to be a creature of the night!”
“I will cure myself of this affliction, and no one is going to stop me.”
“If that is what you wish, SO BE IT!”

He began to squirm as though in pain, he grew in height and his skin turned a horrific green pallor, large bat-like wings sprouted from his back and his nails turned into demonic talons. He no longer looked human anymore; he more or less resembled something out of a nightmare as he flew towards me. I tried to turn and run but I could not move as he picked me up with some twisted form of magic. He tossed me about the room like a ragdoll and when he finally stopped I could barely stand. I managed to find enough strength to get up and try to ram him through with my blade but he simply grabbed me by my head, held me up and plunged his talons into my gut! When I thought I could take no more, he glided eerily barely an inch off the floor over to me and proclaimed
“BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE VAMPIRE!” His voice was horrible, rasping and demonic. He then raised his right hand and casted a spell on me!

I awoke with a gasp in a brightly lit room and the sound of drunken laughter filled my ears. I stood up but felt an extreme pain where the Werewolf had scratched me last night. That thought shocked me back to full awareness and I quickly looked around to see where I was: the room was huge, with large expensive tables and mead all over, there were royal looking pillars and extravagant decorations hanging from the ceiling. The room looked fit for a king and ironically there was a throne with a large, well-built man sitting on it.

“You there! New blood! Come here!” His voice was commanding and echoed loudly around the mead hall. Realising that he was talking to me, I stepped forward and walked past the many tables, all filled with brutish and intimidating men. They made various comments as I passed them, they mostly complimented me, saying things like
‘You fight well New-blood, many of our own kin fell to your axe.” I couldn’t help but feel nervous as I approached their leaders throne.
“You are a werewolf now New-blood but if you want to rise through our hierarchy then you must prove yourself. Your strength and power will also rise as I grant you access to various items that will enhance your new gift. You are in our pack now, and you will help us! Now I shall see how much you can take!”

And on that last word a whole table of Werewolves stood up and morphed into their beast form. Seeing no other option I decided that the only way that I will live is if I turn into a werewolf myself. The transformation process was quick and surprisingly painful as my skin ripped off to reveal fur behind it. I soon felt like a predator and couldn’t help but feel like the other wolves were my prey. Charging them I smashed into two and clawed at their chests until they were motionless. I jumped onto one of them and bit into its neck until it snapped. Another one jumped onto my back to try and throw me off balance but I clawed at it picked it up snapped its back and tossed the corpse at another werewolf. Three of them now tried to kill me all at once but I saw them coming and as the first one pounced at me I held out my paw and he jumped straight into my claws. The second and third tried to flank me but I charged at one and jumped through him and he fell with a shrill yelp. The second tried to copy my previous attack but I jumped to the side and his claws embedded themselves in the wall. I walked up behind the trapped wolf and bit into his neck and ripped a part of it off.

I turned to face their leader.
“Well done, you will be a fine addition to the pack, a worthy replacement to those you slew!” I approached him slowly but somehow he sensed what I was going to do and yelled
“GUARDS! GUARDS!” They had no time to morph so instead they came at me with weapons. Hacking at the guards I slew many before someone smashed a mace into my rib and I slowed my attacks. I picked him up and squashed his head in-between my hands and used his decapitated body to beat another man before jumping on top of him and slashing violently at his stomach. I picked up another man and threw him at one of the supports and it broke. Then I got an idea; maybe I could bring the ceiling down! I ran over to another support and smashed it with my arm until it fell. By now the guards had realised what I was trying to do and so tried to stop me by blocking the way to the pillars. I picked up two more guards and threw them at the other supports. The guards stepped away from me now and began to use bows. I ran to the final support and jumped into it but as I did I got shot in the leg. The ceiling now began to fall and I limped to the exit, the guards tried to get out but a large chunk of the ceiling blocked their escape. I ran out as fast as I could, sprinting with all the speed I could muster and just managed to escape before the exit was sealed with rubble. I was just about to run into the forest when something hard hit the back of my head.
“You shouldn’t have done that, and now you will suffer.” Screamed the werewolves’ leader. I slashed at his stomach but jumped back and while I was off balance rammed me through with his sword. I lost consciousness.

There we are. Now what do you guys think?

Well I just joined yesterday but I must say that is an interesting story. Looks like a tale of a vampire and of a werewolf? I will be interested where you go with this. I would like to see more! Love how the werewolf made the roof collapse.

It is actually the draft of the second chapter of a book I plan to write. I started this simply to see how it would be in practice. I'll have to do the first chapter later! Thanks for the feedback.

It's a ton of text that actually held my attention so that I actually read it all. Good job there, that takes a lot, we all know I'm ADH - oooh something shiny!!!

A couple things though...holy quotation marks, especially with Brandon!! It kinda made me feel like all the characters were hopping and skipping while saying their lines. Are they all really that excited? The first set of dialogue, I seriously thought he was talking to Jack from Will & Grace wearing mime makeup (although you might be a little young to know the show...)

Also, especially if you're planning on putting this into a book, you might wanna consider switching to a third person omniscient narrator if you're going to tell this from two characters' POV. It will make it far less confusing. If you're gonna stick with the first person narration, you're gonna hafta give us a little more indication in the text of who the character is so we can follow. Dialogue with the character's name in it might help.

I do like the concept though, a story told from a vampire and a werewolf's different point of view has the potential to be fresh and interesting. Keep working!
